Transformational Together: Charting SVPI’s Path Forward

Fresh into my role as CEO of Social Venture Partners International (SVPI), I am energized by the potential that lies before us. As I reflect on our organization’s rich history and envision our future, one theme resonates clearly: we are truly transformational when we work together.

From its inception in the late 1990s, SVPI has been rooted in the belief that engaged, collaborative philanthropy can create more profound, more sustainable impacts in our communities. Paul Brainerd’s revolutionary idea of leveraging not just money but skills, expertise, and networks has grown into a global movement spanning over 30 cities. This core principle—that we are stronger together—continues to guide us as we enter a new chapter.

I am struck by the incredible engagement and energy surrounding us. In just my first few days, I’ve received numerous inquiries from communities eager to establish new SVP affiliates. This enthusiasm speaks volumes about the ongoing relevance and power of our model.

However, what excites me most is our opportunity to evolve collectively. SVP affiliates have been at the forefront of philanthropic innovation in their local communities for nearly three decades. Now, it’s time for us to harness that collective wisdom and experience to transform how we operate as a global network.

The vision of our board co-chair, Dr. Adriana Loson-Ceballos, continually inspires me. Adriana’s work has consistently emphasized the power of collective giving to democratize and diversify philanthropy. Her research has shown how giving circles support members’ ability to affect social change, build community, and inspire impactful philanthropy. We’ll draw on these insights to strengthen our network and amplify our impact as we move forward.

To this end, we’ll be launching an affiliate task force to co-create SVPI’s value proposition moving forward. This collaborative effort will focus on how we can deliver the most impact and what affiliates need to achieve that goal. It will stand as a testament to SVPI’s commitment to co-creation and our belief that the best solutions emerge when all voices are heard.

Indeed, our strength lies not just in our individual efforts but in our collective power. By connecting local to global, sharing knowledge and resources across our network, and continuously evolving our approach, we can indeed be transformational together.

The challenges facing our communities are complex and interconnected. But so are we. And therein lies our greatest strength. As we move forward, let’s embrace the spirit of collaboration that has always defined SVPI. Let’s be bold in our vision, innovative in our approach, and unwavering in our commitment to creating lasting, positive change in our world.

Together, we can transform philanthropy. Together, we can transform communities. Together, we are truly transformational.
