With a passion for operational excellence and community empowerment, Blanca is poised to make a significant impact at SVPI. In this Q&A, we explore her professional journey, passions, and aspirations for her work with SVPI.
Tell us about your professional background—what brought you to this role at SVPI?
I have a diverse professional background that spans accounting, education, and administration. After earning a BS in Business/Accounting and a Master’s in Education, I spent a decade teaching K-8 before transitioning into administrative roles in K-8 education and eventually college administration at the University of Arizona. My passion for creating impactful systems and collaborating with diverse teams drew me to SVPI. I’m inspired by the organization’s commitment to fostering innovation and addressing complex social issues, which aligns with my skills in operational efficiency and my drive to make a difference in the world.
What resonates with you most about SVPI’s mission?
SVPI’s mission of amplifying social impact through partnerships resonates deeply with me. Pooling resources, knowledge, and energy to tackle systemic challenges aligns with my belief in collaborative problem-solving. It’s inspiring to see how SVPI bridges gaps and creates lasting change by leveraging collective strengths.
What inspires you about the work being done by SVP partners worldwide?
I’m inspired by the innovative solutions and dedication of SVP partners worldwide. Their ability to approach complex social challenges with creativity and determination is remarkable. The SVP community brings together diverse perspectives and expertise, fostering an environment where ideas flourish, and meaningful connections are made. It’s rewarding to be part of a network driven by a shared vision for positive change.
What are you looking forward to in your work with SVPI this year?
I look forward to contributing to SVPI’s initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and expand global partnerships. I’m excited to collaborate on projects that support partner organizations in achieving their missions. I’m especially eager to help create frameworks that promote sustainability and innovation within the SVP network.
What is a project, nonprofit, or cause that you are passionate about?
I’m deeply passionate about equitable education and community empowerment for under-resourced communities. Specifically, I advocate for students with disabilities and chronic health conditions who have faced barriers to accessing appropriate educational support. I’ve been a member of several child study and advocacy teams within local school districts and community groups, working to improve support processes for students with special needs. I also serve as an in-person advocate for families navigating these systems during their support meetings with schools.
Outside of education, I care deeply about supporting the rights of LGBTQ individuals and have contributed to organizations such as The Trevor Project, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Matthew Shepard Foundation.
Additionally, I am a supporter of Gold Star families who have lost an immediate family member in military service and contribute to TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors) in any way I can. I’ve had close family members lose their loved ones in military service, so to me, supporting Gold Star families and TAPS is essential to honoring their sacrifices, ensuring their loved ones are remembered, and providing a compassionate community to help them heal and rebuild.
